Press Release Writing
Public relations is not just about a few newspapers. There are magazines, trade publications, specialist journals, radio and broadcast tv to consider.
The following is an example press release written for ConnectAbility in Newcastle, NSW Australia to promote their fundraising golf day and was published on their blog and submitted to local news outlets.
Charlestown Golf Club will hold the fourth annual ConnectAbility golf day, proudly sponsored by Unity Kitchens, is set to achieve more things than just a āhit and giggleā.
The organisation empowers people to achieve their goals, dreams and aspirations by providing disability services and aged care support, while supporting people in the community to learn living skills, gain work readiness through volunteering and to develop relationships.
āThis is a day where our sponsors can go out and have a great timeā, said Connect Ability Executive Officer Margaret Taylor. We love our corporate supporters and have developed great relationships with them. Our customers know many of our supporters by name and love to see them.
āIf it wasnāt for the partnerships weāve formed with our corporates, it would make things really tough. Their generosity is vital to us.ā This year Unity Kitchens owner Mick OāShea and ConnectAbility have broadened the day to include āREACH Homeless Servicesā so that more vulnerable people living in Newcastle can benefit from the generosity of local businesses.
Funds raised on the day will go toward support resources for people living with a disability in the Hunter, such as new IPads for teaching tools, surfboards, to learn water skills and enjoy Newcastleās beaches, as well as transport opportunities. REACH are also hoping to source more food and vouchers to get people through the weekends when other services arenāt available.
ConnectAbility was founded in 1992 by a group of community members and families to meet the needs of people with significant disabilities, providing opportunities to access community based resources, facilities and services.
In 2015 a merger with Jesmond Connected Communities was completed to provide a broad range of personalised supports to older members of the community.
āThe growth of our business has been phenomenal. Weāre committed to making a difference in peopleās lives,ā added Taylor.
Anthony Green from DABS Plumbing has been practising for the event for weeks and although he admits heās struggled with the rules of golf, he knows itās all for a good cause.
āI just donāt want to lose too many balls. But really itās just a pleasure to be associated with ConnectAbility. When I go to jobs I can see the results and see close hand how much their clients benefit from their help.ā
